Svar på avgående partiombud Sebastian Lindholms (TIP) inlägg på The International Partys blogg den 27/7-2011.
Answer to outgoing party agent Sebastian Lindholm (TIP) entry, published July 27, 2011 on the blog of The International Party.

Som studentkårens högsta organ är det viktigt att kårfullmäktige och kårstyrelsen representerar så många medlemmar som möjligt, och dessutom avspeglar största möjliga spektrum av studenterna på campus. Utöver detta är det viktigt att kårpoltikerna är aktiva. Därför är det goda nyheter när TIP:s avgående partiombud Sebastian Lindblom kommer med sina synpunkter på nuvarande styrelsen.
Sebastians synpunkter riktar sig mot ledamöter i den valda styrelsen, som han – om vi förstått honom rätt – anser inte agerat efter sina vallöften. Som vi ser det, grundar sig inlägget i en mängd missuppfattningar kring hur kåren styrs och kring hur HumSam fungerar. Eftersom kårordföranden May Al-Boujassam kommer från vårt parti vill vi kommentera anklagelserna, och därtill klargöra hur HumSam fungerar, för att ge ett svar på Sebastians synpunkter.
Vad gäller kårens verksamhet, innehåller Sebastians blogginlägg till att börja med alltså två centrala sakfel.
För det första: De tre utsedda personer som tituleras ”andre vice ordförande” resp. ”ledningssekreterare” är såsom framgår i inlägget inte tillsatta av kårfullmäktige. Detta är i förhållande till fullmäktiges mandat oproblematiskt eftersom ingen av de tre får fatta beslut. De två andre vice samt ledningssekreteraren arbetar bara operativt. De arbetar på kårstyrelsens uppdrag och har ingen beslutsrätt av principiell karaktär. Sådan rätt har bara kårfullmäktige och– i mindre grad –kårstyrelsen. Detta framgår tydligt i kårstadgan. Det är alltså fullmäktige som tar de viktigaste besluten av principiell karaktär. På dess uppdrag arbetar sedan presidiet, som utsågs på fullmäktigemötet i juni där TIP närvarade med sina sju ledamöter.
För det andra: att processen att utse de tre har drivits av May och Erik personligen, såsom antyds i texten, stämmer inte heller. Processen att rekrytera och rekommendera de två andre vice ordföranden samt ledningssekretraren sköts av kårens heltidsanställde verksamhetschef – som inte är student.
Så till hur HumSam fungerar.
HumSam är ett kårfackligt parti. Vi företräder studenterna vid humanistisk och samhällsvetenskaplig fakultet. Under verksamhetsåret avser vi arbeta för bland annat att stärka studentråden, förbättra studiesituationen för de omkring 20.000 humsamfakulteternas studenter, men också naturligtvis för att öka representationen i kåren överlag. Vi ser till exempel ett allvarligt problem i att naturvetarna är underrepresenterade i kåren.
Sebastian antyder att partidialogen i kårfullmäktige har drivits av personliga rikspolitiska åsikter, vilket ska ha lett till presidiets nuvarande utformning. Detta stämmer inte. HumSam vill att så många röster som möjligt får höras, och vårt val av dialogpartners grundar sig varken i partnerns ideologiska barlast eller i medlemmarnas individuella. HumSams medlemmar sympatiserar åt bägge sidorna blockgränsen i den svenska rikspolitiken, och vårt arbete sker enbart utifrån partiets uppfattning, fastslagen av våra medlemmar. I förhandlingarna efter valet kom vi fram till att nuvarande samarbetspartier bäst möjliggör den politik som våra väljare gett oss mandat att arbeta för. Som det ser ut nu, sammanfaller vår problemanalys till stor del med S-studenter. Vi är därför glada över att vårt förra partiombud May inte bara har tilldelats förtroendet att axla ordförandemanteln, men även glada över att hon delar presidiet tillsammans med Erik från just S-studenter.
Vi är övertygade om att analysen kring humsamstudenternas bästa är en variabel som på lång sikt förändras. Vi tror också att långsiktiga framtida samarbeten kommer att ske åt alla håll och kanter i kårpolitiken. Detta under ett villkor förstås: att vi även i framtiden anförtros att förvalta studenternas förtroende. I år vi fått ett stort sådant förtroende. Det är en ära att få vara med och förvalta det. Vi har börjat under sommaren, och ser fram mot att fortsätta i höst!

Since the Representative assembly of The Stockholm University (Kårfullmäktige) and the board (Kårstyrelsen) are the topmost bodies of the Stockholm University Student Union, it is crucial that they represent as many members as possible, and that they reflect the largest spectrum possible of the students on campus. In addition to this, it is important that the politicians of the parties of the Student Union are active. Hence, we are pleased to learn the comments on the current board expressed by Sebastian Lindblom (TIP).
Sebastian’s comments are addressed to members of the elected board, whom he finds – if we understand him correctly – having not acted in accordance to their election vows. As we see it, the entry is based on a number of misconceptions regarding how the Student Union is managed and how Humanisterna och Samhällsvetarna (HumSam) work. Since the President of the Union, May Al-Boujassam, represents HumSam, we want to leave a reply on his comments and in addition clarify how HumSam works.
As for union activity, to start with, Sebastian’s blog post includes two factual errors.
First, the three designated persons addressed as ”Second Vice-President” respectively ”Union Board Secretary” are, as stated in the post, not elected by the council. In relation to the council’s mandate this is unproblematic, since the three of them have no mandate on political issues. Instead, they work operationally on behalf of the board. As stated in Kårstadgan (the statute of the Student Union), the political competence lays in the representative assembly and, to a lesser extent, the board. Thus, it is the Representative assembly that takes the principal decisions. Elected by the assembly in June, where TIP this year participated with its seven members, the President and the Vice-President thereafter lead the daily work of the Student Union.
Second, Sebastians text implies that the process to appoint the three positions mentioned above has been run by May and Erik personally. This is also a misconception. The process to recruit and recommend the three has been run by union’s full-time employed HR-manager – who is not a student.
Moreover, a few words on how HumSam works.
HumSam represents the humanities’ and social sciences’ students of the university, regardless of their preferences in the nation-wide political system. This fiscal year, we will work for the improvement of departement student advisory boards (”ämnesråd”), and in various ways work for the improvement of the study conditions of the Stockholm University’s approximately 20,000 students of the Humanitites and the Social Sciences. Another aim of ours is to make the Student union represent more groups of students. For instance, we consider it most problematic that the students of the natural sciences are underrepresented in the Student union.
Furthermore, the entry implies that the dialogue between the parties in the Student Council, Kårfullmäktige, has been based upon nation-wide political stances, this having shaped the form of this year’s board. This is also one of Sebastian’s misconceptions. HumSam wishes to hear as many voices as possible in the dialogue between the parties of the student union, and our choice of dialogue partners is based neither in the partner’s ideological conviction, nor in any personal nation-wide political conception. The HumSam members have their individual sympathies of the Swedish national politics on both sides of the left-right wing spectrum. Our common work emanates exclusively from the party’s position, shaped by its members. In the negotiations after the election, we concluded that the current co-operation partners represented the policies most similar to those, that our voters had given us a mandate to work for. For instance, our problem analysis coincides to a large extent with the one of S-studenter. We are therefore not only happy that our former deputy May Al-Boujassam was assigned the confidence of being the board’s President, but also pleased to see Erik from S-Studenter as the Board’s Vice-President.
We are convinced that the analyses regarding the best policies for the students of the Humanities and Social Sciences in the long-term future time will will conclude a variety of answers. We also believe that long term future collaborations will be made on all sides and edges of the party spectrum of the student council. This of course being under one condition: that we in the future are entrusted to manage students’ confidence in the same way as we have been this year. As for now, we consider it an honor to being able to participate in the managing of this confidence. During the summer, we have initiatied this honorable task. We are looking forward to continuing it this autumn!
